The Data Science Laboratory is an academic research unit of the School of Production Engineering and Management at the Technical University of Crete.

The laboratory adopts a multidisciplinary approach, combining Data Science, Business Analytics, AI/ML, and econometric analysis with selected qualitative and field-based research approaches, including ethnographic inquiry when relevant. Dimitris Zopounidis serves as Researcher on strategic projects developed in collaboration with Alpha Bank, focusing on Artificial Intelligence, risk management, data-driven decision-making and regional economic development.
His work includes the development of Artificial Intelligence Risk Management Methodologies in alignment with the EU AI Act, supporting governance frameworks, risk assessment processes and decision-support mechanisms for financial institutions.
He also serves as Researcher of a large-scale data-driven regional economic analysis project for Crete, conducted in collaboration with Alpha Bank to support evidence-based strategy and decision-making.
In parallel, he contributes to initiatives that strengthen and established the strategic relationship between Alpha Bank and the Technical University of Crete through collaborative activities associated with the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the two organizations.
